Castle Howard
Castle Howard Estate, York, Yorkshire
Started in 1699 by Charles Howard (1669-1738), 3rd Earl of Carlisle, it would take over an hundred years to complete. Its architect was Sir John Vanbrugh and the Hampton Plantation in Maryland took its inspiration from the design.
