Theberton House

Potter's Street, Theberton, Suffolk

Built in the late 18th century either for and thereabouts acquired by Major Thomas Gibson (d.1807), who had made a fortune through sugar plantations in the West Indies. He died and the estate passed to his then one year old son, Thomas Milner-Gibson (1806-1884), who grew up to be President of the Board of Trade. In turn it passed to his son, Jasper, who had married an American heiress from Ohio, Elizabeth Parsons, sister of Princess zu Lynar and the aunt of Lady Innes-Ker and the Countess of Ancaster.
