Abraham Van Buren I (1737-1817)

Captain Abraham Van Buren, of Kinderhook, New York

Orphaned by the age of three, he grew up to become a prosperous farmer and the owner of a tavern at Kinderhook, New York. During the Revolution, he served as Captain of the 7th Albany County Militia. He was the father of Martin Van Buren (1782-1862), 8th President of the United States.
