Ann (Willing) Bingham (1764-1801)
Mrs "Nancy" (Willing) Bingham of Philadelphia
She and her husband William Bingham were the undisputed young power couple of Revolutionary America. Nancy was the model for several portraits by the noted society portraitist Gilbert Stuart. According to legend, Mrs Bingham was the model for "Lady Liberty" on the American "Draped Bust" coins minted during the first decade of the 19th century. When she died at sea, her husband never recovered and died of a broken heart in England while resident with their eldest daughter, Lady Ashburton.
