He was elected Conservative M.P. for Holderness in 1900 and held the seat until 1922. During World War I, he was captured while acting as a Foreign Service Messenger and was imprisoned by the Germans from December 1915 to July 1917. He married Alice, daughter of Sir Edmund Filmer, 9th Bt., of East Sutton, Kent. They had two sons, the elder took the name Wilson-Filmer and the younger Filmer-Wilson.
