Charles Carroll III (1737-1832)

He was the only Catholic and the longest-living Signer of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. He lived for the remaining thirty years of his life at Doughoregan House. On his death in 1832, he owned property valued at over $1,650,000 with 70,000 acres in Maryland, New York and Pennsylvania. The city and country houses of his children, plus stocks, money, slaves, cattle, crops, furniture & silver were worth $750,000.
