Homewood House

Baltimore

He was educated in France before returning to Maryland to manage the family estates. He designed Homewood House on the land that was gifted to him by his father as a wedding present. Charles was an alcoholic and in 1816 his wife and children left Homewood for a house in Philadelphia. His father bought back Homewood in 1824 in an attempt to put right his "most improvident waste". Charles died from alcohol the following year.
