Edward Middleton (1641-1685)

Edward Middleton "The Immigrant" of The Oaks, South Carolina

He and his brother, Arthur, emigrated from London, England, to Barbados. In 1678, they emigrated again to South Carolina, eight years after the founding of Charleston. Appointed Lords Proprietor's Deputy and Associate Justice, Edward received large grants of land on Goose Creek. In 1680, the Crown granted him the plantation near Charleston on which he settled and named The Oaks
