Edward Preble Deacon (1813-1851)

His father-in-law, Peter Parker, built the Deacon House in 1848 for him and his wife between Concord and Worcester Streets. Designed by a Frenchman, it featured the first mansard roof in Boston. The interior included a set of decorative panels by Claude-Nicholas Ledoux and paintings by François Boucher that are now found in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The house and all of its contents were sold at auction in 1871 after the death of Peter Parker. The house then became a restaurant, the Massachusetts Normal Art School, and after a devastating fire in the late 1880s, a dance hall. Today, the last remnant of the house has now been converted into apartments.
