Franz Theodore Stone (1813-1862)

Franz Theodore Stein

Franz was an astronomer who fled Prussia after the Revolution of 1848 and settled at Devil's Lake, Michigan. There, he anglicized his name from "Stein" to "Stone". The "Franz Theodore Stone Laboratory" on Gibraltar Island, Put-in-Bay (originally the property of Jay Cooke) is named in his honor.
