George Taylor (1716-1781)

U.S. Founding Father & Member of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania

He is generally assumed to have been the son of a Protestant clergyman from Northern Ireland. He came to Pennsylvania as an indentured servant to ironmaster Samuel Savage. After Savage died, he married his widow (Ann Taylor) and by her had two children, of whom only one lived to adulthood. After Ann died, James continued an affair with his housekeeper, Naomi Smith, by whom he had a further five children (surnamed Smith) mentioned in his will, but of whom little else is known.
