Henry Brevoort, Jr. (1782-1848)

He was a lifelong friend of both Washington Irving and Philip Hone. He lived on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 9th Street and was well-known in society for hosting elaborate balls. By 1846, his fortune was estimated at $1-million. He built up a private library of 8,000 rare books which he left to his son, James. He married Laura Carson of Charleston, South Carolina, and they had five children (listed) who lived to adulthood.
