John Beverley Robinson (1820-1896)

He was born at Toronto and educated at Upper Canada College. During the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837 he served as A.D.C., to the Lieutenant-Governor, Sir Francis Bond Head. He was called to the Bar in 1844. He served as an Alderman and Mayor of Toronto. He was involved in the incorporation of a number of companies in the Toronto area, including the Toronto and Georgian Bay Canal Company. In 1858, he was elected M.P., for Toronto. He helped promote the Northern Railway Company and served as its President from 1862 to 1875. He served twice more as M.P. for Algoma and Toronto. He became the 5th Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Ontario.
