John Dandridge (1700-1756)

Colonel John Dandridge, of "Chestnut Grove" New Kent Co., Virginia

He was induced to settle in Virginia after witnessing his brother William's success in the new colony. John established himself as a planter and lived between his townhouse in Williamsburg and his plantation house "Chestnut Grove" in New Kent County, across the river from his brother at Elsing Green. He was Clerk of New Kent County for 26-years while also serving as a Colonel in the militia. In 1730, he married his sister-in-law's cousin, Frances Orlando Jones. They had eight children of whom five (listed above) lived to adulthood, including Martha Washington
