John Griswold Gardiner (1812-1861)

9th Proprietor of Gardiner's Island, New York; died unmarried

He was the second son and started his life as a merchant, making a voyage to China as a young man. After the death of his elder brother he became the 9th Proprietor of Gardiner's Island and lived with his mother at the "White House". He died unmarried in 1861 when Gardiner's Island passed to his younger brother, Samuel.
