Col. John Quincy (1689-1767)

He was born at Boston, Massachusetts. He was Colonel in the Suffolk Militia, on the Governor's Council, Speaker of the House, Guardian of the Ponkapoag Indians, and a Member of the Executive Council. When the north precinct of Braintree (where he lived) became it own town in 1792, it was named "Quincy" in his honor. His great-grandson, U.S. President John Quincy Adams, is also named for him.
