John William Hopkins (1793-1864)

John W. Hopkins, of Bath, Somerset; Deputy Assistant Commissary-General

He was the son of Captain John William Hopkins (1767-1823) R.N., of Chaddesley Corbett, Worcestershire; and, a great-great grandson of The Rt. Rev. Ezekiel Hopkins (1634-1689), Protestant Bishop of Derry in Ireland. John was an officer in the British Army. He fought in the Peninsular Wars and at the Battles of New Orleans and Waterloo. He married and was the father of at least two sons who reached adulthood.
