Mary (Whitney) Phoenix (1810-1876)

She was the daughter of one of New York's first multi-millionaires, said to be second only in wealth to the Astors. Her husband was also a very wealthy man who died leaving a fortune of some $250,000. In 1864, she purchased Glenwood in Hudson as a summer home for and her talented son, S. Whitney Phoenix. She was married to Congressman Jonas P. Phoenix and they were the parents of seven children.
