Nathan Appleton (1779-1861)
Merchant of Boston & U.S. Congressman from Massachusetts
He was reputed to be worth $1.5-million in 1851 making him one of the richest men in Massachusetts. His nephew married a daughter of Daniel Webster and one of his daughters married the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow while the another married Robert Mackintosh, British Governor of Antigua.
