Nicholas Carmer (1735-1807)

He was listed as a cabinetmaker in 1782 with a store at 34 Maiden's Lane and a few years later he had branched out so that he also called himself an "ironmonger" - selling hardware such as chairs and bureaus as well as cabinets. By 1792, he was trading solely as an ironmonger from 230 Queen Street (later renamed Pearl Street). His finances are thought to have faltered and he ended his career as an inspector of lumber. He was a Vestryman at Trinity Church, New York, from 1787 to 1805.
