Osgood Field (1823-1900)

of Palazzo Colonna, Rome

He was born at his parents' townhouse, 482 Broadway, New York City. He was educated at the French Boarding School of the Brothers Peregnet. He briefly returned to New York before establishing himself as a commissions merchant in London. He retired soon afterwards and went to Rome where he took an apartment at the magnificent Palazzo Colonna where various other members of his family (eg., his uncle, Hickson Woolman Field) were then living. He remained at the Palazzo but spent several months a year between London, Paris and the fashionable European spa towns. In 1880, he married Katherine Roxana Parker, but died without children while staying in Paris.
