Pierre/Peter Lorillard III, of P. Lorillard & Co., Tobacco Manufacturers
When he died in 1867, an article appeared in the Galaxy listing the ten wealthiest men in New York. He came in sixth on the list with a fortune estimated at $4,245,000, behind James Lenox in fifth place and ahead of John D. Wolfe (who married his sister, Dorothea Lorillard) in seventh place.
