Rev. John Livingston (1603-1672)

Covenanting Minister of Ancrum; and, Rotterdam, Holland

He was born at Kilsyth, Stirlingshire. He was a great-great-grandson of Sir William Livingston, 4th Laird of Callender, Stirlingshire. He graduated from Glasgow University and was ordained as the Minister of Ancrum. In 1663, he was exiled to Holland due to his opposition to turning the Presbyterian National Church into an Episcopalian institution. He settled with his family at Rotterdam. He married his wife at Edinburgh in 1635 and they were the parents of fifteen children. His son, Robert Livingston The Elder, became the 1st Lord of the Manor of Livingston in New York.
