Shirley Davis (Spaulding) Gary (1920-2013)

Mrs Shirley Davis (Spaulding) Hatch, Gary; Editor of 'Fashion Trades' New York

She was the daughter of Chester Warren Spaulding of Poughkeepsie, New York. Her mother was later better known as Lady Pearson of 12 Pelham Crescent, London, the wife of the British publisher Sir Neville Pearson, 2nd Bt. In the 1940s, she was the Editor of Fashion Trades, the New York Fashion Industry Newspaper. In later years, she was a contributing author to the Braille Mirror, a publication of the Braille Institute of which she was a director. Her stepfather, Sir Neville Pearson, was President of St. Dunstan's Hospital for the War Blinded in England and it was his father's charity towards the blind that saw him receive a Baronetcy in 1916. She was first married in 1941 to Rutherfurd Lewis Hatch but she divorced him after just one year in 1942. In 1948, she became engaged to Pierre Lorillard Barbey Jr. but the engagement was broken off just a month later. In 1963, she married Wyndham Lewis Gary (d.1989), Lawyer of New York and a Member of the Board of J.P. Stevens & Co. They had one son, Wyndham Bradford Gary.
