Sir Frederick Orr-Lewis (1860-1921)

Sir Frederick Charles Orr-Lewis 1st Bt., of Montreal, Whitewebbs Park, & Cannes

He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and came to Montreal as President of Lewis Brothers Ltd, hardware manufacturers. He was appointed President of Canadian Vickers Ltd., shipbuilders, and in 1908 he became a director of the Merchant's Bank of Canada of which he was the largest shareholder. In 1896, he married Maude, daughter of William Booth, of London, Ontario, and had three children. He lived on Sherbrooke Street, Montreal until 1911 when he moved to England, living at Whitewebbs Park in Enfield. He survived the sinking of the Lusitania, but was badly traumatised by the tragedy. He died at his villa, Valletta, in Cannes. See images for all his homes.
