Sir Henry John Caldwell (1801-1858)

Sir Henry John Caldwell, 7th Bt., M.L.C., of Quebec; Seigneur de Lauzon

Associated Houses

Caldwell Manor

Etchemin, Pointe-LĂ©vis

He was born in Quebec City. He inherited the Seigneury of Lauzon after the death of his grandfather which was sold in 1826 to clear his father's debts. Even though it had not been part of his father's property, Henry's appeal was unsuccessful. In 1833, he bought Belmont House in Quebec from the heirs of James Irvine that had previously belonged to his father. He was a Justice of the Peace and married Sophia Louisa Paynter, though the marriage was without issue and the Caldwell Baronetcy became extinct on his death. He died at the Marlborough Buildings in Bath, England.
