Thomas Amory (1722-1784)

Thomas Amory, Merchant, of Boston, Massachusetts

He was born at Boston and was educated at the Boston Latin School and Harvard University (1741). He became a merchant and operated a distillery that had originally been purchased by his maternal grandfather. He and notably his wife's family, the Coffins, were Loyalists and during the Revolution the Amorys briefly removed to Quebec before returning to Boston where Thomas remained in business with his brothers up until his death. In 1764, he married his cousin, Elizabeth Coffin, first cousin of Admiral Sir Isaac Coffin R.N., and they had 8-children who reached adulthood.
