Thomas Buckminster Curtis (1795-1871)

He was born in Boston, the son of a merchant and shipowner. He was first a U.S. Naval officer, serving as a Midshipman in the War of 1812, before becoming a merchant and banker in the Russia Trade. He was the manager and agent of the merchant bank of Brown, Shipley & Company, of London & Liverpool, and of Brown Bros., & Co., of New York and Boston. He was reputed to be worth $150,000 in 1851. In 1824, he married his first wife, Maria Sargent, and they were the parents of 2-children. In 1838, he married Laura Greenough and they had 7-children.
