Thomas E. Davis, Property Magnate of New York

He was considered the most successful land speculator of his generation. In 1862, he was named the third largest landholder in New York, behind only John Jacob Astor II (1791-1868) and A.T. Stewart (1803-1876). In the mid 1860s, he retired with his wife to Italy.
