William Christopher Rhinelander (1790-1878)

Lt. William C. Rhinelander, of Rhinelander & Sons, Sugar Merchants, of New York

In 1867, an article appeared in the Galaxy listing the ten wealthiest men in New York. He came second on the list with a fortune estimated at $7,745,000, behind William B. Astor in first place and ahead of Alex T. Stewart in third place.
