He co-owned the foundry with his brother, Gouverneur Kemble. In 1826, he built "The Cottage" at Cold Spring that is being renovated for use as a Bed-and-Breakfast. Their son, Peter, married Victorine DuPont, daughter and co-heiress of Alfred Victor du Pont.
