William, 9th Duke of Manchester (1877-1947)

He was a notorious spendthrift who got into countless scrapes and spent the most part of his life evading his creditors and trying to swindle money out of his wealthy acquaintances. Despite his marriage to a wealthy American heiress (his mother too was an American heiress), he depleted the family fortunes and his son was forced to sell all their estates. After his first marriage ended in divorce, he married a stage actress. He had four children by his first wife and died in Sussex.
