William Rawle Jr., President of the Common Council of Philadelphia

He was educated at Princeton and admitted to the Philadelphia Bar in 1810. During the War of 1812-1814, he served as Captain of the 2nd Troop of Philadelphia City Cavalry. He resumed his legal career and "attained a prominence and reputation little inferior to that of his father". He was President of the Common Council of Philadelphia (1836-1840); Member of the American Philosophical Society; and, with his father co-founded the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
