William Wallace Cargill (1844-1909)

Founder of the Cargill, Inc., of Minnetonka, Minnesota

He was born in New York to Scottish parents and grew up on a farm at Janesville, Wisconsin. In 1865, he founded Cargill, Inc., as a small grain storage company in Conover, Iowa. By the late 20th century, Cargill was based in Minneapolis and had become a multi-billion dollar business as America's largest privately owned corporation with 600-plants and offices in 40-countries with over 25,000-employees.
