Alexander Mackintosh (1861-1945)

Alexander Mackintosh, Architect, of London & New York

Born in London, having won several awards he became assistant to the famous architect Sir Aston Webb. In 1893, Mackintosh emigrated to New York where he gained employment with Kimball & Thompson who gave him the job of designing 867 Madison Avenue, which is today the flagship store of Ralph Lauren. After the firm closed in 1898,  he remained in New York and started up his own successful firm.
