Andrew Drummond (1806-1885)

He was born in Stirling and co-founded J & A Drummond with his brother, James, on Baker Street before removing to premises at 1 King Street where, "a large trade, more especially in tartan drapery goods, was done". In 1854, it was reported: "The Proprietors of the celebrated Clan Tartan and Scotch Tweed Warehouse, Stirling (Drummond's), have much pleasure in intimating that their fame for Damask Table Linen, Cotton and Linen Sheetings, Towellings, etc., is rising as rapidly as their celebrity for Tartans, Scotch Plaids, and Tweeds, for which they have long commanded the most distinguished patronage in the kingdom". Andrew Drummond was also the Secretary and Treasurer of the Stirling Steamboat Company and in 1852 was elected both Dean of the Guildry and Town Councillor. In 1857, he was elected Magistrate (Bailie) for Stirling, but retired the following year and did not seek re-election. He lived at Tredinnock House, 5 Park Terrace, and married Christina Clark. Their daughter became the wife of Robert Wilson Reford, Founding President of Robert Reford & Co., Shipping Agents, Montreal.
