Colonel's Robinson's family had been settled at the Hewick Manor Plantation in Virginia since 1663. He was the younger brother of John Robinson (1704-1766), Speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses. His wife, Susanna, grew up at Philipse Manor Hall and was heiress to some 40,000 acres in New York. During the American Revolution, he sided with the British and raised the Loyal American Regiment, of which he was the commanding officer. He died in England.
