Edmund Quincy IV (1703-1788)

He was born at the Dorothy Q. Homestead in Braintree, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard in 1722 and was a partner in the family shipping firm when in 1748 one of their ships Bethell captured a Spanish boat laden with treasure, making all the partners very rich. At Braintree, he was known as "Squire" or "Justice" Quincy. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace, but suffered financial losses and was declared bankrupt in 1757. He sold his house to his brother-in-law, Edward Jackson, husband of "Dorothy Q." Though an old man by the time of the conflict, he supported the Revolution. He was married twice and was the father of eight children (listed) who survived to adulthood including Mrs Dorothy Hancock, First Lady of Massachusetts.
