Elisabeth (Mills) Reid (1857-1931)
Mrs Elisabeth (Mills) Reid, "Press Baroness"
She was known for her, "modest demeanour, intelligence and charm" but she'd inherited her father's business acumen in no small dose: it was in a large part due to her that her husband's newspaper continued its success after his death. Their son Ogden may have been President, but it was she oversaw its merger to become The New York Herald Tribune. She enjoyed a close friendship with Mrs Anna Cowles which helped forge the strong bond between her husband and Anna's younger brother, President Theodore Roosevelt. She married the U.S. Ambassador to both France and the U.K. and they had two children, both prominent in society life on both sides of the Atlantic
