Jefferson Davis (1808-1889)
President of the Confederate States & U.S. Senator from Mississippi
His first wife, Sarah, was the daughter of U.S. President Zachary Taylor who shared neither his political views nor ambitions. She died just three months after they were married in 1835. In 1845, he married Varina, daughter of Lt. William B. Howell, and they had six children of whom three (listed) survived to adulthood.
