Katherine (Duer) Mackay (1880-1930)

Mrs "Kitty" Alexander (Duer) Mackay

Associated Houses

Harbor Hill

Roslyn

Kitty was the great-great granddaughter of William and Lady Kitty Duer, for whom she was named. She was a well-known socialite with a wicked sense of humor, but, she was also a leading figure of the suffrage movement. She also took a keen in interest in community affairs and charity. At Harbor Hill, she administered the public schools at Roslyn and was active in charities that supported local hospitals. The Mackays were well-regarded in the community: they created jobs and looked after the children of their staff through providing education, paying doctors bills and treating them to annual parties.
