Louisa (Van Rensselaer) Baylies (1865-1945)

Mrs Louisa (Van Rensselaer) Baylies; Member of the "400" died without children

She was born in New York City and was a granddaughter of "The Old Patroon" Stephen Van Rensselaer, Lieutenant-Governor of New York and one of the 10 richest Americans in U.S. history. In 1887, she married Edmund Lincoln Baylies, Attorney and personal Counsel to Cornelius Vanderbilt III. They lived at 10 East 62nd Street in New York City and died without children. She was awarded the French Legion of Honour for her charity work during World War I and she died in England at Hamstead Lodge near Newbury when she was living with her friend Cornelia, Countess of Craven.
