Samuel Appleton (1766-1853)

Dry Goods Merchant & Cotton Manufacturer of Boston, Massachusetts

Having started his career with just six and a quarter cents, by 1851 he was reputed to be worth $1.5-million and along with his brother and business partner, Nathan, was one of the richest men in Massachusetts. He married a young widow, Mrs Mary Gore, widow of John Gore, but died without children.
