Sir John Musker (1906-1992)

Sir (Harold) John Musker, of Shadwell Park, Thetford, Norfolk

He was born in Norfolk, the grandson of the founder of the Home & Colonial Stores who on selling his business purchased Shadwell Park. He graduated from Cambridge and became a banker in London. During World War II he joined the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, reaching the rank of Captain. In 1942, he represented the City of London as a councillor for the Municipal Reform Party. He held the seat at the 1946 County Council elections, but resigned in October 1947. He was Chairman of the bank Cater, Brightwen & Co. from 1938 to 1960 and of Cater, Ryder & Co. from 1960 to 1971. He was knighted in 1952. He inherited Shadwell Park in 1942 and devoted himself to breeding racehorses. In 1982, he became the fourth husband of the Hon. Audrey Paget
