William Biddle (1697-1756)

WB III, Merchant of Philadelphia, formerly of "Mount Hope" New Jersey

He was born at "Mount Hope" Burlington, New Jersey. He came to Philadelphia as a merchant with his brother, John. According to his biography in Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, "He met with many reverses financially, mainly through endorsements for friends; and, though inheriting a large fortune, lost practically all of it prior to his death, 1756". By his second wife (daughter of Gideon Scull, Surveyor-General for Pennsylvania) he was survived by seven children.
