Buckhurst Park

Buckhurst Park, Withyham, East Sussex

Built from 1603, for Thomas Sackville (1536-1608), 1st Earl of Dorset and succeeding generations of his family up until the early 19th century. The Sackville family (Lords Buckhurst, Earls and Dukes of Dorset, and Earls de la Warr) had been in possession of Buckhurst since 1086. In the 1890s, it was leased to the great American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) who was a frequent guest at neighbouring Penns-in-the-Rocks. Today, Buckhurst is home to the 11th Earl de la Warr and it's also available as a wedding venue as well as for events.
