Old Westbury Golf & Country Club

270 Wheatley Road, Old Westbury, Nassau County, New York

Built 1942, for Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney (1899-1992) and his third wife, Eleanor Searle (1908-2002). Whitney pulled down The Manse which his grandfather, William C. Whitney (1841-1904), had built in 1902 and replaced it with this Delano & Aldrich designed plantation-style house - possibly influenced during Whitney's role as a co-producer for the 1939 classic, Gone with the Wind. In 1960, the Whitney House became home to the Old Westbury Golf & Country Club.
