J. Grenville Kane, Banker, of New York City & Little Neck Bay, Long Island

He was a railroad financier and trustee of the New York Public Library. In 1881, he married Margaret, daughter of the art collector John Wolfe who was a cousin of the philanthropic Catharine Lorillard Wolfe. The Kanes were among the original members of Pierre Lorillard's exclusive development, Tuxedo Park. The image above shows Kane's country seat at Little Neck Bay, on Long Island Sound, between Huntington and Flushing. From 1890 up until Mrs Kane's death in 1940, they made an annual for the season to Newport, Rhode Island. They were the parents of five daughters.
