Smith Thompson Van Buren (1817-1876)

He was named for his father's close friend, Smith Thompson, Chief Justice of New York. His first wife was the aunt of the famous author, Henry James, while his second wife was a niece of the equally famous author, Washington Irving, who had lived at Lindenwald while tutor to the children of William P. Van Ness. By his two wives he had seven children (listed).
