She was born at Norwalk, Connecticut. She was the sister of Moses Rogers, of 7 State Street, New York City, and their sister, Esther, was the wife of Archibald Gracie who built the Gracie Mansion on Manhattan. Three of her brothers (Fitch, Henry and Nehemiah) fought as Loyalists and were among the founders of Saint John in New Brunswick. In 1769, Susannah married Yale graduate David Lambert and lived with him at Wilton, Connecticut. They were the parents of nine children of whom five lived to adulthood including Sarah, the wife of George Crookshank of Toronto; Deputy Commissary-General for Canada and Member of the Privy Council.
